Food

Ayurveda emphasizes that the personal health can be maintained by following a health-promoting daily and seasonal regimen. Purity of body, mind and spirit is sought through diet and lifestyle, detoxification, yoga and meditation.

Eating is a fundamental physiological activity that maintains health on a day-to-day basis. All aspects of the daily diet – what to eat, how to eat and when to eat – are important. When body and mind are in balance most anything can be eaten in moderation without causing health issues. But when there are imbalances, the diet needs to be controlled in order to avoid further aggravations.

You will receive recommendations of what to eat or what to avoid eating and drinking based on your health complaints and physical constitution.

The plan is to in the near future offer meals at the restaurant of Dr Unni’s Nest prepared by ayurvedic principles for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Placed next to and in direct connection to the clinic is Dr Unni’s Nest – a hotel with 18 rooms for double or single occupancy – all with their own private balcony, Indian Ocean sea-view and en-suite bathroom. The beach is just a couple of hundred meters’ walk away.

Agastyaa surroundings & Kovalam

Kovalam was once a fishing village clustered around its crescent beaches and rice fields. Today it is Kerala’s most developed resort. Along the main stretch, the Lighthouse Beach, there is a charming beach-walk filled with small shops, restaurants and hotels.

In the village of Kovalam there are small alleys also filled with small shops, restaurants, tailors and cobblers offering everything from snacks, toiletries, souvenirs, jewellery, clothes, spices etc. It is a safe and closed environment without any motor vehicles.

A couple of hundred metres walk from Agastyaa Heritage Ayurvedic Centre you will find the Lighthouse beach – a sandy beach where sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented. Even though this beach is surveyed by life-guards, please be aware that the waves and sea currents are usually very strong. Also the tropical sun is very strong and a potential health hazard for your skin. At the end of the beach India’s oldest lighthouse is situated.

Cash machines can be found along the main road towards Kovalam Junction. You can reach them either by a 15 to 20 minute walk or by 5 minutes ride with a rickshaw.

Thirty minutes by car takes you to Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. A city of close to four million inhabitants where you can find everything a big city has to offer.
